DATECAM: DOUBLE DATES
(In partnership with Camfess)

Stuck at home and sad that you’re not gonna be meeting new people this term? Annoyed that self-isolation has resulted in self-partnership? Fed up of Stephen Toope’s emails and just need someone NEW in your life? Look no further!

Let’s face it - awkward supos on Zoom are not the one right now. But in the absence of a Cindies smoking area, there may be an unprecedented lack of networking in Easter term. So hang up on your supervisor, *virtually* grab a friend and sign up for a double date with DateCam.

DateCam is a super wholesome initiative that seeks to replace academic rigour with social vigour - ANY STUDENT (undergraduates and graduates alike!) from across the university can sign up, so grab that mate from Girton and get busy! We aim to reconnect people across the university in a way that appeals to everyone. Whether you’re looking for a friendly chat, romantic encounter or anything in between, we’ve got you covered!

AND IT'S FOR CHARITY, YOU SAY?

YES! Christ’s Ents are putting the cost of the ents we won’t be hosting in Easter Term towards a donation to the Cambridgeshire Coronavirus Community Fund, hosted by the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation (CCF). CCF are giving emergency donations to local organisations that are helping those most at risk from the virus, and we want to do our part to help out! Read more about their mission here: http://www.cambscf.org.uk/cambridgeshire-coronavirus-community-fund.html

Signing up for a date is free, but we encourage people to donate using the link below: https://app.sogive.org/#fundraiser/datecam.OwffllhE.5674fb
(We recommend donating ÂŁ3 per person, but any value, big or small, is welcomed :) )

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Click “interested/going” on the event, grab a friend and fill in a form together - this “double-date” extravaganza aims to alleviate the potential awkwardness of a one-on-one interaction by allowing you to date in pairs. In order to really push the collaborative spirit, you need to fill in the form for each other - so get on FaceTime/Messenger/Zoom and start working on your responses together! If you haven’t got someone else to do it with, that’s not a problem, as you can simply fill in the required questions for yourself only (i.e. the first page of the form). The deadline to fill in the form (link below) is 11:59PM ON THE 22ND APRIL:

Sign up here: https://forms.gle/aHPkLYyW5J6Vdj9U6

Once you’ve filled in the form, we’ll match you with another pair (or another three people if you’ve filled in the form as an individual) from across the university - we’ll send you an email by the 26th April with their names and basic details (i.e. the more in-depth questions are for us to match you up with like-minded individuals\; no-one apart from the Christ’s Ents committee will see your responses to these questions). Then, it’s down to you to make contact and have your four-way chat! We recommend having your date on Friday 1st May so that term/exams won’t have really started yet (for most people), but really, any agreeable date between you is fine.

DISCLAIMER

The creators of DateCam are famously (and ironically) ‘anti-dating’.. BUT we really want to promote making connections and getting to know people! Whatever you want to get out of this experience is what we want to provide. If you want this to be completely unromantic, that’s fine - we can do that! If you want to shoot your shot for real, that’s also fine! Just push the boat out and have a fun* conversation!! (*we are not liable for the quality of chat)

We’ll likely send out an email/facebook post with a feedback form sometime in the week beginning the 4th May - if you could fill it out and let us know about your experience, that would be great!

This documentary focuses on drag queens living in New York City and their "house" culture, which provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant and often socially shunned performers. Groups from each house compete in elaborate balls that take cues from the world of fashion. Also touching on issues of racism and poverty, the film features interviews with a number of renowned drag queens, including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija and Dorian Corey.

Please respect that although this screening is open to all, the chat must be treated as a safe space for discussion of sensitive issues if they arise. This means that by joining the chat everyone agrees to a certain level of confidentiality on all conversations that occur in the chat.

When tyrannical dictator Joseph Stalin dies in 1953, his parasitic cronies square off in a frantic power struggle to become the next Soviet leader. Among the contenders are the dweebish Georgy Malenkov, the wily Nikita Khrushchev and Lavrenti Beria -- the sadistic secret police chief. As they bumble, brawl and back-stab their way to the top, the question remains -- just who is running the government?
